Back to School – Party for Moms

BTSMomsPartyThe joy of having them home and the joy of them going back to school.   Moms need to celebrate too and for some, sending your child to kindergarten is tough and heart breaking, but celebration should be had by all. Plan a block party or invite your dearest friends or classmates mothers to nice coffee and mimosa after the kids are dropped off.   You could have some little fruit kabobs and mini cinnamon rolls and their choice of drink.   Hug a lot and talk about the upcoming school events. A nice little favor you could give each mom that attends is a little packet of lunch box recipes and ideas.   Print them off or dress them up like a cookbook, but something they will use !!

Back to School – Intro

BTSIntroBack to school party can be done for any age group, for teachers wanting to have one more good time before class is in session or even for the Moms the day school is back in session.

For the kids and teachers, planning the party to be like a mini school day can be a lot of fun….reading time, lunch time and recess time….then send everyone home with a goody bag that might include a pencil, eraser, a snack and perhaps a cute folder and writing pad.

This week’s blog will include some ideas for this party and even for the Moms back to school party which could be mimosas and morning munchies, sending home a few lunch time recipes as the favor. Keep an eye out for the next blog this week – RECESS!

US Tennis Party

US OPEN CupcakesUS Open cupcakes….you actually could go to Party City or a party store and pick up the tennis balls already made.   Use yellow icing with curved white accents for the ball.   Very simple and inexpensive, and who doesn’t love cupcakes?

What great ideas in this photo from Pinterest.   Make labels for water bottles.   Make sugar cookies to look like tennis balls or use the cupcakes we wrote about earlier. Remember using yellows and greens make it look like tennis.   Notice the tablecloth that you can make yourself with green tablecloth and white tape.   How about those green candies? I also like the water bottles and Gatorade because it goes off of what the players have on the court with them.

Back to School Party – RECESS!

BTSrecessIt’s Back to School Party time and you need some ideas for RECESS – here are some!

Things to do at the party:

Play bingo – cards can be printed off the computer. Kids love to play (so do adults) and prizes can all be related to back to school supplies.

Great activity – hula hoop – have the kids do the hula hoop all together or one at a time. Time them.   Try two together – that is fun and lots of laughs.

Play Red Rover, Dodge Ball, Ball and Jacks, Hopscotch – all those fun “oldie” games!

And to finish off your recess time – have photo time.   Set up an area with cute school things around it such as a desk, chair, sports equipment, books and a banner that says back to school with the year on it.   Send photos via email to parents after the party for a great memory saver.

US Tennis Party – Center Piece

US OPEN DecorationWhat a great decorating idea for your buffet table. Make it a potluck and ask the guests to bring something you would eat at the US Open. Plan the party around one of the big matches and munch while watching. Do you have a signature dish that you want to show off? Ask your friends to bring side dishes, dessert, etc. to give everyone a selection of foods to choose from while they watch!

Back to School Snacks

August is the time when kids of all ages are going back to school, and that means more time in the morning is needed to help them get ready to get out the door! One fast tip that could save you some time is a Healthy Snacks drawer. This does not only have to be used for the kids, but for your work lunch as well. The weekend before put together some bags of grapes, cut carrots, peanut butter and jelly, etc. Then each morning all you have to do is grab and go!

A really cute back to school snack for the kids is to make a Dragon Fly snack pack. All you need to do is color a clothes pin, attach pipe cleaners as antenna, and clip is between two snack sized plastic bags. The snacks inside the bags will make the colorful wings, and it is a fun way to get kids to eat healthy!

Another Healthy Snack recommended by Jacqueline Gomes, a registered dietician. This recipe involves no cooking and easy preparation that even your children could make yourself. Peanut Butter and Banana roll up snacks are “high in protein, potassium, and whole grains”. All you have to do is spread peanut butter on a whole grain tortilla, add bananas to the center and you can slice it into pinwheels after you roll it up!

Frog AppleAnother cute snack idea, this one may take some time, is a Frog Apple! I had to share this one with you, absolutely adorable healthy snack idea. All you need is Green Apples, Green Grapes, chocolate chips and marshmallows. Just cut your apple up into quarters and remove the core.  Cut three grapes in half and slice two triangle toes in 4 of the halves.  You can use a little cream cheese to stick the arms to the frog and then add his hands and feet.  For the eyes, take a couple of small marshmallows {or you could do a blob of cream cheese} and add a chocolate chip to the middle.  I stuck my marshmallows on with a little bit of cream cheese too.
