Back to School Party – RECESS!

BTSrecessIt’s Back to School Party time and you need some ideas for RECESS – here are some!

Things to do at the party:

Play bingo – cards can be printed off the computer. Kids love to play (so do adults) and prizes can all be related to back to school supplies.

Great activity – hula hoop – have the kids do the hula hoop all together or one at a time. Time them.   Try two together – that is fun and lots of laughs.

Play Red Rover, Dodge Ball, Ball and Jacks, Hopscotch – all those fun “oldie” games!

And to finish off your recess time – have photo time.   Set up an area with cute school things around it such as a desk, chair, sports equipment, books and a banner that says back to school with the year on it.   Send photos via email to parents after the party for a great memory saver.

Back to School Snacks

August is the time when kids of all ages are going back to school, and that means more time in the morning is needed to help them get ready to get out the door! One fast tip that could save you some time is a Healthy Snacks drawer. This does not only have to be used for the kids, but for your work lunch as well. The weekend before put together some bags of grapes, cut carrots, peanut butter and jelly, etc. Then each morning all you have to do is grab and go!

A really cute back to school snack for the kids is to make a Dragon Fly snack pack. All you need to do is color a clothes pin, attach pipe cleaners as antenna, and clip is between two snack sized plastic bags. The snacks inside the bags will make the colorful wings, and it is a fun way to get kids to eat healthy!

Another Healthy Snack recommended by Jacqueline Gomes, a registered dietician. This recipe involves no cooking and easy preparation that even your children could make yourself. Peanut Butter and Banana roll up snacks are “high in protein, potassium, and whole grains”. All you have to do is spread peanut butter on a whole grain tortilla, add bananas to the center and you can slice it into pinwheels after you roll it up!

Frog AppleAnother cute snack idea, this one may take some time, is a Frog Apple! I had to share this one with you, absolutely adorable healthy snack idea. All you need is Green Apples, Green Grapes, chocolate chips and marshmallows. Just cut your apple up into quarters and remove the core.  Cut three grapes in half and slice two triangle toes in 4 of the halves.  You can use a little cream cheese to stick the arms to the frog and then add his hands and feet.  For the eyes, take a couple of small marshmallows {or you could do a blob of cream cheese} and add a chocolate chip to the middle.  I stuck my marshmallows on with a little bit of cream cheese too.
